Why a Screen Test?

Understanding Acting Skills

Acting is a mix of natural talent, technique, and confidence. Some people are born with a natural presence, feeling comfortable expressing themselves and connecting with an audience or camera. Others may freeze or feel nervous when performing, especially in front of a camera.

Screen tests are invaluable because they allow us to see how each actor comes across on camera in a low-pressure setting, giving everyone — whether experienced or new — a fair chance to show their abilities. Screen tests help identify who naturally fits a role and highlight potential that may not be obvious at first glance.

What Directors Say About Acting

Alfred Hitchcock: “Actors are like children: some are naturally brilliant, some are shy, and part of our job is to bring out the best in them.”

Stanley Kubrick: “A good actor is a mixture of instinct and training. Screen tests show us what they truly have on camera.”

Why Screen Tests Matter
Screen tests are a long-standing part of filmmaking, from classic Hollywood to modern independent cinema. They help us:

  • ✅ See how you appear and perform on camera

  • ✅ Understand how you connect with your character

  • ✅ Ensure each actor fits naturally into the production

  • ✅ Give all actors a fair and professional opportunity

Your Casting Options

1️⃣ Self-Shoot Screen Test (Remote)

We recommend a self-shoot screen test using your mobile phone or home camera. If your self-shoot demonstrates potential, you will be invited for an in-person screen test at our studio.

Self-Shoot Screen Test Instructions

For your self-shoot screen test, we want to see your natural presence, creativity, and how you connect on camera. You can:

  • Perform a short scene or monologue of your choice.

  • Pick a scene from a book, play, or movie.

  • Or improvise a short scenario from your own imagination.

Tips:

  • Keep your video under 1–3 minutes

  • Find a quiet, well-lit space (natural light works best)

  • Keep the camera steady (tripod or prop) and record horizontally

  • Speak clearly and act naturally — we’re looking for presence, not perfection

Once you’re happy with your video, upload it via or contact page.

Tips:

  • Speak clearly and act naturally — no fancy equipment needed

  • Keep it short (1–3 minutes)

  • Focus on presence and connection, not perfection

2️⃣ In-Person Screen Test

Successful self-shoot applicants may be invited to Creation Films headquarters for an in-person screen test.

What to expect:

  • Filmed with a simple camera setup in a relaxed, supportive environment

  • May perform the scene more than once with light direction

  • Focus on natural presence, clarity, and emotional connection

  • Not all will be cast, but every test is respected

Experience:

  • Previous acting experience is welcome but not essential

  • First-timers encouraged!

 Joining Creation Films Talent Agency
